Spring/Summer is a sign that home and garden improvement projects need to be tackled, but many of us don't want to do the nasty tasks that are time consuming, messy and laborious. But you can still take advantage of the good weather and begin to prepare your home and garden for the hot summer ahead.
Good quality garden furniture will last for many years. However, a few seasons neglect can lead to it becoming covered in mildew and lichen and badly stained. But rather than replacing it at considerable cost, it can be rejuvenated by our chemical stripping process – and the results can be spectacular

For the wetter days, when decorating indoors seems more appropriate you can turn your thoughts to paint and decorating. However that often requires removing layers of chipped and flaking paintwork And that is not a nice job. Hand stripping coats of old paint is particularly time consuming and a messy process. Professional Paint Stripping Service by Hicks Sharp & Co uses a process that not only removes the paint/varnish more cleanly and efficiently than hand stripping can hope to achieve, but also lends the wood a classic stripped pine colouration that is so widely admired. To finish, all that is required is a quick rub down with sand paper, perhaps 180 grade to start and then finishing with something finer, maybe 220 grade. Brush off any loose dust and treat with a suitable sealant, normally a wax polish, but if resistant to water, or a more durable surface is required then an oil finish (particularly for garden furniture) or a varnish would be better.

Spirit based varnishes, whilst smellier; tend to give a more chip resistant coating than water based products. If any holes require filling it is prudent to use a filler slightly darker than the untreated wood to allow for the darkening of shade produced by the wax or varnish. When polishing, apply a good, even coat with either a soft rag or brush and then leave to dry before buffing up with a clean soft rag or lambs wool pad. Better results will be achieved by repeating the process.
